Assam Society, Qatar is an affiliated social organization under Indian Cultural Center working in Qatar since last three years with full swing though it was established in the year 2008. This is an organization of people of Northeast India, mostly from Assam having nearly 350 members from all walk of life living as expatriate from North Eastern states . It is a non- political, non-religious, non-profit making social organization. It follows the law of the land and shall remain affiliated to ICC under the aegis of Indian Embassy of Qatar. Its aim and objective is keeping the people of North Eastern India under one umbrella of social interaction. It will strongly promote the cultural heritage of the region and our country. It has been taking active part in the cultural events organized by ICC like India Festival, India’s Independence Day & Republic Day etc. Last year, during the India Festival, Assam Society exhibited decorative handicraft items of North Eastern India. On that occasion a bilingual (English and Assamese) souvenir named “Tied with Golden Threads” was released by the dignitaries of ICC management. A book on Qatar in Assamese Called “Qatar Diary” written by Dr. Bhupen Saikia was also inaugurated on the Festival. Artist of Assam Society took part in Bihu dance on the cultural night on the occasion of India festival which was highly applauded by large international audience present there. This year Eid festival was celebrated with cultural events by Assam society, where a large number of Indians from different communities took part there. ICC President (I/C) Mr. Girish described this Eid celebration as first of Its kind ever organized by any ICC registered society in Qatar. Guests from other countries who enjoyed it highly appreciated such endeavor that brings social harmony. Assam society has future plan of providing helping people of India in case of natural calamities etc. The society is increasing in size fast day by day.
